I anglicised my forename in 1978 (getting fed up with being asked to spell the Polish version, with the extra 'e' ).
My previous job was being a systems analyst and programmer in Oracle / PowerBuilder / PL-SQL for Vertex Data Science in central Manchester, formerly the IT section of Norweb. It is hard to believe that when I started out in IT, COBOL was the lingua franca, Bill Gates was a spotty nerd and windows were just expanses of glass.
I quit IT in 2006 and am now a private tutor in science (to GCSE) and maths (to A Level), mostly to students in Bury Metro borough.
I have been married to Alison (nee McKenna) since 1987. In the words of Michael Caine, not many people know that, but Alison worked in the senior library for a 6-month stint in 1979.
My favourite hobby is still amateur astronomy after 30+ years despite the climate and light pollution, but more recently I'd started setting quizzes at work for charity. I'm also a member of MENSA, though lapsed a little recently. We are also readers at Guardian Angels' in Bury, on the Saturday evening shift.
My fave food is authentic Italian cuisine a la Antonio Carluccio, washed down with a fine Chianti. I also am partial to bizarre Belgian brews such as Duvel, Chimay Blue and Hoegaarden.
My Room 101 candidates are petty bureaucracy, imitation theme pubs, reality TV shows, and the taxman.
